Talking Communication
A whole school programme for schools to confidently support speech, language and communication skill development in children aged 5-11.
Designed and evaluated by Speech and Language UK, the children's communication charity.
Primary Talk improves staff knowledge and understanding of speech, language and communication. Learning is embedded by supporting participants to create personal action plans, providing resources to support the identification of speech language and communication needs (SLCN) and auditing whole school practice.
Teachers and support staff build skills and gain the confidence they need to support all pupils’ communication skills by establishing practical strategies and approaches to:
- Develop a strong understanding of typical speech, language and communication development.
- Identify children with speech, language and communication needs.
- Use strategies and approaches that will contribute to high quality teaching, helping schools to raise pupil attainment.
- Develop the foundation skills for literacy.
- Contribute to improving behaviour.
- Develop communication skills across the curriculum.
- Develop the social aspects of learning – making friends, working in groups, and building relationships.
- Work collaboratively with parents and other professionals.
